The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has allocated nearly $2.7 million for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) to support cancer prevention and control initiatives around the state.
“Far too many West Virginians have lost loved ones to cancer," U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said in the release. "While cancer treatments have made major advancements in recent decades, it is critically important that we continue investing in research and prevention efforts so fewer people have to struggle through treatment."
U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., added, "Unfortunately, it seems everyone has a cancer story — a parent, sibling, or friend who has been affected.
"Cancer has sadly touched thousands of West Virginia families, but we never stop fighting. Prevention and control are critical to keeping our state healthy and our families whole."
