WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., announced Thursday around $800,000 in federal funding will go toward improving operations at airports in Marshall, Greenbrier and Upshur counties.
The U.S. Department of Transportation grants will be given to the counties’ airport authorities to use for increasing safety and efficiency of terminal and runway operations.
“Airports serve an important role in rural communities and I am glad these airports will be able to make necessary improvements to continue that important work,” Manchin said in a joint release.
“As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I was glad to do my part in making sure airports in these counties receive the funding necessary to continue providing essential service to travelers,” Capito added.
The Transportation Department awarded $181,028 to the Marshall County Airport Authority; $550,543 to the Greenbrier County Airport Authority; and $67,500 Buckhannon-Upshur Airport Authority.
