CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Clarksburg Water Board (CWB) is receiving $6.88 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for clean water upgrades.
U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito’s (R – WV) office announced in a press release that the award was secured through a Congressionally Directed Spending request that she made.
The money will be used to fund service line replacements in the Northview, Rosebud and Stealey neighborhoods, a transmission line off Van Buren Street and emergency repair and remediation of a water main break on West Pike Street in downtown Clarksburg, according to the press release.
Capito said in the release that she was motivated to obtain the funding after lead service lines were discovered in Clarksburg.
“Following the discovery of the lead service lines in Clarksburg, I worked directly with the water board and the EPA on how to properly address potential contamination and next steps for removal and remediation,” Capito said. “I am proud to see these resources go directly to the Clarksburg Water Board, which has been working tirelessly to ensure their customers throughout Harrison County have access to safe and reliable water sources during renovations to the entire system.”
Earlier this month, $6.4 million was announced for several water and sewer projects in West Virginia, including ones in Nutter Fort and West Milford.
