U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and state Superintendent of Schools Steven Paine joined local school officials, past and present, and representatives of the contractors Tuesday behind Brooke Middle School for a ribbon cutting marking the school’s opening. The national anthem was performed by the Brooke High School Band, and comments were offered by Capito; Paine; Brooke County Superintendent Toni Shute; Rob Robinson, school district facilities director; Ernie Dellatorre, president of McKinley Architecture and Engineering; and Benjamin Ashley, director of architectural services for the state School Building Authority. The SBA awarded $18.1 million for the school, which also was supported with $12 million from a bond issue approved by Brooke County voters in 2014. It was designed by McKinley Architecture and Engineering of Wheeling and constructed by Grae-Con Construction of Steubenville and more than 30 subcontractors under the supervision of Massaro Construction Management Services of Pittsburgh and Robinson. The doors open to pupils on Friday.
