CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Proof that people can overcome addiction was alive and well Thursday night.

Recovery was celebrated at the annual "Miracles on Lee Street Dinner," as sobriety was celebrated and money was raised for the non-profit organization Rea of Hope.

The name of the dinner is significant because Lee Street is where one of their homes is, and their executive director Marie Beaver says that each one of the women they help in the fragile days after her addiction recovery is a miracle.

Rea provides structure for women so that they can reenter society as a sober, strong, confident woman. They are required to get jobs, help with the up-keep of the home and much more. Rea's program has several different phases of helping women achieve independence.

Thursday night those at the fundraier heard from those in recovery, their parents, and their children. All testified what the organization did to help bring their families back together.

Honored Thursday night as a champion for Rea of Hope was U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito.
