CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today released the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Commerce’s affirmative decisions on a hardwood plywood antidumping and countervailing (AD/CVD) case.
Specifically, the ruling found that imports of certain hardwood plywood products completed in Vietnam using components primarily manufactured in China circumvented the antidumping duty (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) orders on hardwood plywood from China.
In March, Senator Capito led a letter to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo to ensure the protection of domestic hardwood plywood manufacturers, following concern that manufacturing in this sector has been disrupted in recent years due to China’s unfair import practices. The decision, which came after Senator Capito’s letter, is a major victory for the hardwood plywood and veneer industry in West Virginia.
“This is wonderful news for our manufacturers and workforce in our hardwood plywood and veneer industry in West Virginia, and I appreciate the Commerce Department for heeding my call and taking action in the face of unfair actions from China. I will always stand in support of our manufacturers in West Virginia, and fight to make certain they are not improperly disadvantaged by China’s misleading economic practices,” Senator Capito said.
