U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) recently joined almost a dozen of her Republican colleagues in offering a resolution to celebrate America’s power industry.
“West Virginia is a proud energy-producing state, and our workforce in that field has long contributed to our culture and traditions,” Sen. Capito said on Tuesday. “Their work to bolster American energy does far more than just keeping the lights on – it strengthens our national security and improves the lives of our people, country, and world.”
Sen. Capito on Sept. 29 signed on as an original cosponsor of Senate Resolution (S.Res.) 386, which is sponsored by U.S. Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and 10 other GOP original cosponsors, including U.S. Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and John Hoeven (R-ND).
“I’m proud to join my colleagues to establish National Energy Appreciation Day and will continue to support an all-of-the-above American energy future,” Senator Capito said.
If enacted, S.Res. 386 would designate Oct. 4 as National Energy Appreciation Day and aims to build awareness of the important role that U.S. energy producers play in reducing poverty, strengthening national security, and improving the quality of life for people around the world, according to the text of the resolution.
The resolution also would encourage the federal government, states, localities, schools, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and the people of the United States to observe National Energy Appreciation Day with appropriate events to promote education on and celebrate the role of modern energy systems in everyday life, the text says.
S.Res. 386 has been referred for consideration to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.
