Three area medical facilities are set to receive federal funding for improvements and expansion in an effort to better serve the health care needs of the community.
U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS), announced on Wednesday eight Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) awards from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for education and research programs, facility construction and renovations, and healthcare treatment resources in West Virginia.
“After partnering with organizations across our state and listening to their needs, I am excited to see these awards help West Virginia institutions meet critical goals to expand medical services offered by providers in our state in both scope and quantity," Capito said in part.
Award details for area facilities include:
• $7,516,000 HHS CDS award to the Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) Greenbrier Medical Center, Inc., in Ronceverte, to construct a state-of-the-art facility to house an employed multispecialty physician practice of CAMC Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
• $5,000,000 HHS CDS award to Camden-on-Gauley Medical Center to construct a new building in Summersville that will contain the organization's administrative offices, optical, x-ray, and physical therapy services.
• $3,000,000 HHS CDS award to Summers County in Hinton, to assist the Summers County Commission, in partnership with Appalachian Regional Healthcare, Inc. (ARH), in renovating and expanding the emergency department at Summers County ARH Hospital.
