Funding for projects such as health services, infrastructure, public housing and other projects across West Virginia was announced Thursday.
U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for a variety of health projects in the area.
Local projects receiving grants include:
• $1,682,082 in HHS Health Center Program funding to Community Health Systems, Inc., in Beckley.
• $1,530,210 in HHS Head Start Program funding to Raleigh County Community Action Association, Inc., in Beckley.
• $1,266,238 in HHS Health Center Program funding to the Monroe County Health Department in Union.
• $1,184,522 in HHS Health Center Program funding to Rainelle Medical Center, Inc, in Rainelle.
• $1,109,402 in HHS Health Center Program funding to Tug River Health Association, Inc in Gary.
In addition, Sen. Capito announced grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Capital Fund Program that aim to help Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) repair and improve public housing units.
Local projects receiving housing grants include:
• $716,629 to the Housing Authority of the city of Beckley.
• $508,337 to the Housing Authority of the city of Bluefield.
• $435,668 to the Housing Authority of the City of Mount Hope.
• $162,669 to the Housing Authority of Raleigh County.
