Head Start programs in Beckley and Oak Hill will receive more than $3 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration for Children and Families (ACF).

Specifically, Raleigh County Community Action Association Inc. will receive $1,046,927 and Fayette County Child Development Center will receive $2,278,650.

U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., announced the funding in a release Monday.

“I’m excited to announce these Head Start grants to give our children the education they deserve,” Manchin said. “Early education is vital to positively mold the minds of our young West Virginians. These grants will ensure the continued success of our local children’s centers.”

Capito said Head Start programs give West Virginia children the strong foundation they need to succeed.

“Investing in programs like these put young West Virginians on the right path and benefit the communities around them," Capito said. "I’m confident this funding will help create bright and happy futures for the next generation of West Virginians.”
