The City of Beckley will get almost $10.5 million for street improvements.
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito announced today the funding is from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s RAISE (Rehabilitation and Improvement for Structures Endowment) grant program for transportation projects.
The money is earmarked in Beckley for Campus Complete Streets Improvements and is part of a statewide total of $36.8 million, with $25 million going to Charleston and almost $1.3 million for Westover.
Capito, who is Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said “upgrading and modernizing West Virginia’s roads, bridges, and transit systems is critical to our state’s success, and it’s why I have fought for needed resources through my roles on the EPW and Appropriations committees. I am thrilled these three projects are receiving funds, and know they will make a difference in our communities in Charleston, Beckley, and Westover for years to come. I was happy to write the Department of Transportation a letter in support of each of them, and look forward to seeing these projects come to fruition.”
