On Tuesday, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, (R) West Virginia, took a tour of the Bluefield, West Virginia area, to get a closer look at some of the potential improvements that are in the works.
Using the Bluefield Trolley, Bluefield City leaders showed Senator Capito some of the projects that are in the works. They discussed potential upgrades to some the City’s streets, including improvements to lighting, sidewalks, and the width of some streets.
Part of the funding for these projects was secured by Senator Capito, through congressionally directive spending. She says the goal for these projects is to make Bluefield more modernized.
“With some of the downturn maybe from the rail industry or the coal industry, Bluefield is revitalizing. You see downtown has businesses that are hundreds of people, you have a vision for an Ampitheater, you have transportation quarters which is going to enhance the way of life for the people living, but also attract new people...” says Sen. Capito.
Some of the locations set for improvements include College Avenue, Midway Tunnel, and U.S. Route 52.
