CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) has announced more than $3 million in federal funding for West Virginia disaster relief.

Sen. Capito announced on Thursday that $3,944,851.61 would be provided through the United States Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the West Virginia Division of Emergency Management. The funds will be used to continue recovery projects after severe flooding across the state in April 2018.

“Many communities across our state face flooding due to our mountainous terrain and proximity to large rivers,” Sen. Capito said. “Because of this, funding like this is critical as neighborhoods and towns continue to band together and rebuild from weather disasters.”

FEMA crews previously surveyed Bridgeport homes in February after severe storms and flooding in Aug. 2023.
