Some young ladies in the Clendenin area have a little extra inspiration after spending some time Wednesday with Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) as part of the senator’s “Girls Rise Up Program.”
Wednesday’s event took place at the new Clendenin Elementary School, which Senator Capito helped secure funding to build after the devastating 2016 floods. The goal of the “Girls Rise Up” events is to help empower young women and girls to be confident and focused on their goals and health.
“It was pretty exciting to meet her, too, because I also like to do science and cooking. So, and sometimes, whenever I grow up, I imagine myself doing one of those things,” said student Celia Humphreys.
Senator Capito also took time to tour the new school building. Her daughter-in-law, Dr. Liberty Vittert Capito, joined the senator for the event. Vittert Capito is a statistician, political commentator, and TV show host, and married to Senator Capito’s son Moore Capito.
