Senator Shelley Moore Capito has been working on a Homeland Security funding bill. The legislation provides resources for border security, cybersecurity, efforts to fight the opioid epidemic, state and local grants, and other programs to keep Americans safe.
The bill provides $148 million specifically to combat opioids, more than doubling the FY2018 amount.
Capito says all of these things should make West Virginians feel a little bit safer.
“These are issues that if everything is going right you take it for granted, but it takes a lot of work, it takes the technology, a lot of federal dollars to make sure that West Virginians feel secure, are secure, no matter where they are in the United States,” said Capito.
Capito says the bill also provides $1.6 billion to fund the border wall ask requested by President Trump.
