Federal agencies would be prohibited from contracting with companies boycotting Israel under legislation proposed on July 25 by U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and 12 of her Republican colleagues.
“I have made it a priority to stop the flow of U.S. taxpayer dollars to antisemitic, anti-Israel organizations,” Sen. Capito said. “I’m proud to join my colleagues in this effort to make certain the U.S. does not engage in business with government contractors who boycott our ally and friend, Israel.”
The Countering Hate Against Israel by Federal Contractors Act, S. 4770, is sponsored by U.S. Sen. Jim Risch (R-ID) and a dozen original GOP cosponsors, including Sen. Capito and U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-SD).
“This legislation holds the federal government to a standard that over two-thirds of states have already set, including my home state of West Virginia,” said Sen. Capito, noting that 37 states have passed laws or regulations opposing the boycott, divestment, or sanction of Israel.
Additionally, Sen. Capito has been conducting ongoing oversight of the Democrats’ $1.6 trillion Inflation Reduction Act in her capacity as ranking member of the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.
Most recently, the committee on July 23 released the report, “Investment in Radical Activists: A Case Study on the NDN Collective Supported by the Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act,” which found that millions of dollars in U.S. federal grant money is being provided to extremist groups that demonize the State of Israel and have glorified the Oct. 7 Hamas attack against Israel.
“The American people deserve to know the truth about how the Biden administration is spending their money,” Sen. Capito said last week, “and we will continue to follow where that money goes, exposing the indefensible positions held by the groups that are benefiting along the way.”
