U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., hosted a meeting Wednesday evening with President-elect Donald Trump.

Capito, chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, joined several of her Republican colleagues in the meeting with Trump.

“Honored to host President @realDonaldTrump this evening for a meeting with my Republican colleagues,” Capito posted on the social media site X after the gathering. “We had a good discussion about how to best tackle the issues that face our country and deliver for the American people. @SenateGOP is ready to work with the Trump admin to advance our shared priorities and I’m confident that we will be successful.”

Capito was joined by Senate Majority Leader John Thune in the meeting.

The Associated Press reported that the meeting lasted for more than 90 minutes, with Trump and the GOP senators discussing a wide range of topics.

Inside the private meeting, the AP said Trump received applause and bursts of laughter from the Republican senators, staying late into the evening to confer with him behind closed doors.

The president-elect — joined by Capito and Thune — also took questions from reporters after the meeting. Trump answered questions ranging from his designs on Canada, Greenland and the Panama Canal to the fires raging in California, the AP report said.

Capito is the senior U.S. Senator representing the Mountain State in Washington. She will be joined this legislative session by U.S. Senator-elect Jim Justice, who is the outgoing governor of West Virginia.

Justice succeeds long-time Democrat-turned independent Joe Manchin, who didn’t seek re-election to the U.S. Senate.
