CHARLESTON — U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $1,249,080 to the West Virginia Adjutant General’s Office through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on Wednesday. This funding is directed to reimburse the state of West Virginia’s emergency purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE), specifically N95 respirators and medical gloves, from July 24, 2020 through April 12, 2021.
“West Virginia’s quick response to the COVID-19 pandemic and rapid deployment of the COVID-19 vaccine undoubtable saved lives. I’m pleased to use my role as the top Republican on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee to reimburse emergency contracts made by our state to combat the spread of the virus,” Senator Capito said. “Our medical professionals, volunteers, and local leaders have boldly faced unprecedented challenges this year, and I could not be more thankful for their dedication on behalf of our state. As we return to normalcy, we must continue to watch out for our fellow West Virginians and support one another.”
“Our frontline workers have gone above and beyond to care for their fellow West Virginians during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the end of the pandemic is within reach, these workers continue to depend on PPE to keep themselves and our communities safe. We must ensure our frontline workers and healthcare professionals continue to be properly equipped. I am thankful FEMA is continuing to invest in West Virginia to help cover the costs of PPE,” Senator Manchin said. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to support our healthcare professionals and keep West Virginians safe.”
