CHARLESTON — Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $1,227,347 in funding through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for medical support services across West Virginia.
This funding will provide clinical research for neurological disorders, cancer protection and diagnostic research, and support for graduate medical education.
“HHS has been a steadfast partner in West Virginia, and I couldn’t be more thankful for their support,” Capito said. “Providing our medical institutions across the state with the resources they need is essential to the overall care of West Virginians. Additionally, making sure that our rural health centers are properly staffed and are able to provide services across West Virginia remains a top priority of mine. I will continue to work with HHS to provide these resources back home.”
“Our healthcare professionals have been on the front lines of this pandemic from the beginning. This funding will support medical students in West Virginia and allow them to complete their residencies in our health centers and hospitals, keep our medical professionals close to home, and will also provide medical equipment for cancer detection and funding for research. I am proud to support our healthcare professionals and will continue to ensure they receive the funding and support they need through this pandemic and long after,” said Manchin.
