CHARLESTON U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $7,262,424 for non-profits across West Virginia to help combat veteran homelessness on Monday. This funding is made available through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program (SSVF) in fiscal year 2021, which begins on October 1.

“Our veterans have sacrificed so much so we are able to enjoy the freedoms we have today. The least we can do is provide them relief when they need it most. West Virginia has one of the largest populations of veterans per capita in the country, making this issue all the more important in our state. The COVID-19 pandemic has put such drastic strain on our housing sector, and this grant will help ensure housing security for West Virginia veterans,” said Senator Capito.

“Our Veterans have served America bravely and deserve to be supported when they return home. This funding will help Veterans and families experiencing homelessness find housing quickly and will help prevent homelessness for Veteran families. As a continuous advocate for funding to help address homelessness in our country and West Virginia, I am pleased that West Virginia families will be supported through this program and will continue to fight for more funding to help every West Virginian experiencing homelessness,” said Senator Manchin.
