CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Newly elected U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito has been appointed one of 10 members of the Republican whip team.
A Capito news release says Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, tapped Capito for the job.
The other members of the GOP whip team announced Wednesday include senators Mike Crapo of Idaho; Roy Blunt of Missouri; Dan Coats of Indiana; Deb Fischer of Nebraska; Cory Gardner of Colorado; James Lankford of Oklahoma; Rob Portman of Ohio; Tim Scott of South Carolina; and David Vitter of Louisiana.
Capito has also been named one of four counsels to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
The West Virginia freshman senator won the seat of Democratic Sen. Jay Rockefeller, who has retired.
