The Environmental Protection Agency is providing the city of Parsons with $1.6 million to upgrade the city’s sewer system.

The funding will be used to remove and replace parts of the city’s sewer system that have been identified as contributors of inflow and infiltration, officials said.

The replacement project will help the city’s system remain compliant with state guidelines and help sustain the wastewater treatment plant.

The funding was secured by Senator Joe Manchin and Senator Shelley Moore Capito.

“These improvements will help ensure that the city will have a more efficient water system that better serves its residents,” Capito said.
