RICHWOOD, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Parts of the region are still recovering after flood waters ripped through West Virginia this summer.
Months after the flooding, places that were hit the hardest are getting $2.3 million solely dedicated to housing.
The money comes from the Federal Home Loan Bank in Pittsburgh. It's all part of grant money made available through the Affordable Housing Program.
"We didn't think we'd be able to go home ever, but we are going home," flood victim Cindy Arbaugh said at Tuesday's check ceremony in Richwood.
U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., was also at the ceremony. Congress created Federal Home Loan Banks back in the 1930s.
"There are a lot of people who care for a lot of other people. I'm just really proud to be a part of this effort, and I'm really proud to share this with you today," Capito said.
The money will go to all 12 counties that were declared a disaster after the flooding.
