HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A workshop was held Saturday on Marshall University’s campus to help teach girls life and leadership skills.

The workshop was part of the Girl Scout Badge College. The Girl Scouts were able to select two workshops to participate in with a chance to earn two badges.

U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., who is co-chair of the Girl Scouts’ Honorary Troop Capitol Hill was on hand to share the importance of the Girl Scouts.

“I can personally attest to how Girl Scouts encourage young women and girls to grow into strong leaders in whatever field they love and excel in,” Capito said in a news release. “Whether it’s through education, STEM, or entrepreneurship, Girl Scouts are building the next generation of female leadership in our country. It was a pleasure meeting with so many bright, ambitious girls today at Marshall, and I’m proud to be a part of a group of women that is ending stereotypes and helping to empower our future West Virginia leaders.”

Badges offered during the event included business owner, animal helpers, financing my dreams, truth seeker, savvy shopper, entrepreneur, public speaker and public innovator.
