CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A global technology company that develops cloud-based solutions for federal, state, and local government agencies is opening a location in Charleston and bringing jobs with it.
Governor Jim Justice first announced Thursday morning that Infor will open its first West Virginia location in the capital city and will create more than 100 jobs.
“I can’t tell you how proud I am to welcome Infor to the Mountain State,” said Gov. Justice in a statement on Thursday. “I applaud their commitment to hiring West Virginians and to working with our local higher education institutions to help keep more of our graduates right here at home. With the expansion of Infor, we can better attract other growing tech companies and show them why doing business in West Virginia is a great investment.”
Those being hired by Infor will be 100 technical employees for specialized positions in software engineering, cloud operations and consulting and support services, per release.
Infor also announced that it will partner with Marshall University and West Virginia State University to develop the workforce.
Charleston mayor Amy Goodwin said in a release that Infor will be located in downtown Charleston at Laidley Tower. Goodwin expressed excitement about the opening.
“I am excited to welcome these new tech jobs to Downtown Charleston,” she said in a release. “This is in line with my focus to diversify our city’s job offerings, provide opportunities to create a more vibrant community and grow Charleston’s position within the technology sector. Infor will be hiring at the Kanawha Valley Job Fair co-hosted with U.S. Senator Joe Manchin’s office on March 22 at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. N3 will also participate in the Job Fair and is looking to add 100 people to their workforce at that time.”
U.S. Senator Joe Manchin released a statement on Thursday regarding the announcement.
“I am thrilled that Infor has chosen to locate a regional office in Charleston, bringing with it more than a hundred new good paying tech jobs to the state,” he said. “Strengthening and diversifying West Virginia’s economy is one of my highest priorities in the United States Senate and today’s announcement continues to grow the emerging technology sector in our state with an industry leader. I’m pleased to have had the opportunity to meet with Infor CEO Charles Phillips and his team on a number of occasions over the last year to discuss our skilled workforce and solidify the positive value of doing business in the Mountain State. I welcome Infor to West Virginia and I’m certain they’ll have a successful future here.”
U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito released a statement on Thursday as well.
“I am thrilled Infor has decided to open a new office in Charleston,” she said. “This announcement helps reaffirm our ability to compete for high-skilled jobs and attract investment from leading global firms, like Infor.”
Infor CEO Charles Phillips thanked both senators in a statement.
“I thank Senators Joe Manchin and Shelly Moore Capito and many others who assisted Infor in establishing Charleston as a major cloud operations center. Infor has operations in over 200 countries and territories but selected the great state of West Virginia for this important initiative.”
