CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) - A one-day event that has been touring all across the U.S. has made a stop in Charleston to teach eager West Virginian job seekers and small business owners learn how to optimize Google's many features.
The two workshops that were scheduled throughout the day centered around hands-on activities to allow attendees to master the email basics, maximize search engine capabilities, and other tools beneficial to small businesses.
Senator Shelley Moore Capito said the Grow with Google tour is important to creating opportunities that innovate the state and improve its economic potential.
"I think we see obviously with the digital economy that the way to do it is to maximize your online presence, but have to do it effectively because everybody is trying to do the same thing," said Capito.
Grow with Google's mission is to spread the technical knowledge needed to succeed in the workforce and those who attended said they found valuable information today to take away.
Thomas Health Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Paige Johnson said, "I also monitor social media for the health systems, so that's what we came here for and we heard that Google was coming here and I said 'oh my gosh, we've got to be here,' so we're super excited."
Capito also said the passion and willingness to learn will lead to a brighter future for West Virginians.
