U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito had a special guest at the Girls Rise Up event at Piedmont Elementary School in Charleston Wednesday.

Actress Halle Berry joined the senator to discuss female empowerment, education, fitness and self-confidence with female students in fifth grade.

Students had the opportunity to take the Girls Rise Up Challenge and commit to goals to put them on the pathway to success.

Today’s event marks the 32nd event since the program began in 2015.

Capito launched the program to instill confidence in young women throughout the state to be strong and kind leaders.

“It was so special to have an accomplished female actress like Halle Berry here with me in Charleston to help deliver this message,” Capito said. “This message comes at such a critical point in the lives of these young women, and I am confident that they will go on to do great things in the future.”
