Law enforcement agencies in Raleigh, Mercer and Fayette Counties have been awarded grants paying for equipment and enhanced security.
U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced Wednesday that funding awards were going to several local law enforcement departments across West Virginia.
These awards, which were secured through Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) in Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24), will be used to supplement equipment and training costs for officers in various police departments and local governments across the West Virginia, Capito said.
The following grant awards were made to law enforcement agencies in the counties of Raleigh, Mercer and Fayette.
• $270,000 to the City of Beckley for new patrol vehicles.
• $36,000 to the City of Beckley or bullet proof vests.
• $245,000 to the Mercer County Commission for courthouse security equipment.
• $202,000 to the Town of Ansted for its hire-and-equip project.
“Local law enforcement is the first line of defense when it comes to keeping our communities safe. These additional resources will go a long way in helping ensure that officers and public safety officials are equipped with the tools and training that they need,” Capito said.
