POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — The new Waterfront Farmers Market will open Saturday under temporary structures as construction for the new state-of-the-art permanent market will begin by summer of this year. The market season will run April to October, open on Wednesday and Saturday each week from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Produce isn’t quite ready yet,” said Main Street Point Pleasant Executive Director Chris Rizer, “but we hope to have several vendors selling things like flowers, eggs, baked goods, and artisan goods until late May and early June when produce will start to come in.”

The Waterfront Farmers Market is a project of Main Street Point Pleasant, which received $20,000 from the Mason County Community Foundation to stabilize the former Lowe Hotel boiler house and $470,000 in the FY2023 Federal Budget to build a permanent market structure, thanks to the efforts of Sens. Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito and Rep Carol Miller.

This project is currently undergoing environmental review, after which it will be ready for drafting and construction. In the meantime, though, Main Street is thankful for its many local sponsors for helping open the market under pop-up canopies, Rizer said.

The following sponsors made the temporary structure possible: Coach Rebecca LLC, Homestead Realty-Sandy Dunn, Broker, TJR Investments, Siders Jewelers, Mid-Atlantic Construction, Farmers Bank, Pleasant Valley Hospital, Peoples Bank, City National Bank, Ohio Valley Bank, City Ice & Fuel, ERA Town & Country Real Estate-Beckie Stein Lambert, Broker, Bordman Furniture, Terry Pyles-State Farm Insurance Agent, Kathryn’s Luxury Spa, Robert & Lesa Doeffinger, ZMM Architects & Engineers and Nucor.

Residents are invited for opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. The new market is located on Main Street’s property on 4th street, between the Lowe Hotel and the Floodwall.
