Micrologic, an internet service provider based in Buckhannon, held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for a broadband expansion project in Randolph County.

The Randolph County Fiber Project is set to bring high-speed fiber connectivity to 10,000 locations within Randolph County.

This $20 million investment marks a significant milestone in enhancing the region's digital infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and improving the quality of life for residents and businesses alike, according to a press release from the company.

The project is made possible through partnerships with the West Virginia Office of Broadband MBPS Program and financing support of Citizens Bank of West Virginia, headquartered in Elkins.

"Micrologic is dedicated to investing in our community's future. The Randolph County Fiber Project is more than just an infrastructure upgrade; it's a commitment to fostering innovation, education, and economic development in Randolph County," said Rob Hinton, president and CEO of Micrologic. "We are grateful for the crucial support from Citizens Bank of West Virginia and the collaboration with local partners."

Among the dignitaries present for the ceremony was Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va.

“Connecting West Virginia with reliable internet access has been a central priority throughout my time in Congress because of the potential impact it unlocks for our state,” Capito said. "That potential is evident in Randolph County, which is not only one of the most beautiful parts of our state, but one that has seen an influx of recent development.

"Projects like this capitalize on recent investments, and will serve to increase opportunities for our residents, students, and business owners."

The project's success is also attributed to the strong partnerships with the City of Elkins, the Randolph County Development Authority, and the Randolph County Commission.

These collaborations ensure that the fiber connectivity initiative aligns with the broader goals of community development and economic revitalization, according to the press release.

"The Randolph County Fiber Project is a testament to what can be achieved when local entities work together towards a common goal," said Jerry Marco, mayor of Elkins. "This investment not only brings cutting-edge technology to our doorstep but also paves the way for future opportunities in education, health care, and business."

The fiber network will provide high internet speeds, reliability, and access to essential online services, bridging the digital divide and fostering a connected community, according to the release.

"Citizens Bank of West Virginia is proud to support the Randolph County Fiber Project," said Nathaniel Bonnell, Citizens Bank president. "This initiative exemplifies our commitment to investing in the community's growth and prosperity. Together, we are laying the foundation for a brighter future."

“The Randolph County Fiber Project underscores Micrologic's dedication to delivering innovative solutions and advancing technology access for all, said Robbie Morris, RCDA executive director.

As work begins on this transformative project, Micrologic remains committed to ensuring timely and efficient deployment, with the goal of bringing high-speed fiber connectivity to Randolph County.
