Earlier this month, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced resources from several federal agencies for projects that will bolster health services, economic development, infrastructure, education programs, environmental cleanup, and public housing projects across West Virginia.

DOL FUNDING:As Ranking Member of the Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee,Senator Capito announced that the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has awarded a YouthBuild grant, a program that supports pre-apprenticeship training for young people ages 16-24, to the Randolph County Housing Authority, for which she has been a long champion.

$1,265,000 in DOL YouthBuild grant funding to the Randolph County Housing Authority (Elkins, W.Va.) to help prepare young West Virginians for jobs in construction and other high demand industries.

DOT FUNDING:Senator Capito, a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (T-HUD),helped secure two grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), one for West Virginia University (WVU), and another for the Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority.

EDA FUNDING:Senator Capito, a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee,announced an award from the U.S. Economic Development Administration for continued rehabilitation of the former Vossloh site in Charleston, W.Va.

$3,431,000 EDA awardto Advantage Valley, Inc. (Charleston, W.Va.) to continue rehabilitation of the former Vossloh site in Charleston, including renovations to the roofing, weatherproofing, replacement of exterior overhead doors, fire protection upgrades, bathroom upgrades, lighting upgrades, and appurtenances.

NIST FUNDING: Senator Capito also secured a grant from the Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program to create models that aim to improve energy efficiency in home appliances.

$106,500 NIST award to Universal Schedule and Booking, LLC (Harper’s Ferry, W.Va.) to investigate modeling software, perform tasks to model home efficiency results, and collect data for mechanical equipment used in residential homes.

DOI FUNDING:Senator Capito, a member of the Senate Appropriations Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, also announced formula grant funding from the Department of the Interior (DOI) to plug orphaned wells in West Virginia. This funding was included in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which Senator Capito helped author.

$29,200,000 in DOI IIJA formula grant funding to the state of West Virginia to plug orphaned wells.

NPS FUNDING:Senator Capito also announced funding from the National Parks Service (NPS) State and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices in West Virginia.
