The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded a Congressionally Directed Spending grant of $54,000 for the Town of Poca.

The Congressional Directed Spending award will be used to purchase emergency equipment for Poca law enforcement officers to respond to an emergency event. It was secured through a CDS request made by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) in Fiscal Year 2024.

“This particular CDS award will ensure that law enforcement officers have tools to respond to an unfolding tragedy and save countless lives. As a member of the CJS Appropriations Subcommittee, I will continue to work with our local partners to make sure our communities have the resources they need to remain safe and secure,” Capito said in a Dec. 17 release from Washington, D.C.

“The Town of Poca would like to thank Sen. Shelley Moore Capito’s office in helping the town in receiving the Department of Justice grant. The Town will be using funds to help upgrade its equipment and acquire training to prepare the town’s Police Department for an active shooter/terror activity at our schools and community and keep it safe,” Poca Mayor and Police Chief William Jones said in the release.
