ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), along with officials from Woodlands Development and Lending Group, announced a new project on Friday that is expected to expand broadband access in Randolph and Tucker counties.

Sen. Capito said that the project will run a fiber broadband network from Elkins through Harman and all the way up to Davis. The project was started by an initiative from the Benedum Foundation with West Virginia and Woodlands brought in as well to access more funding.

“One of the reasons we chose this route is because the clinics and the schools along the path of this route really don’t have access to anything right now that they’re able to utilize. We don’t have telehealth happening in that part of the state, we don’t have high-speed internet in our libraries or schools over there, so this is gonna I think make a big difference for them,”

The project is currently in the design phase, but officials hope to begin construction this year and have the project completed by the end of 2025.
