Senator Shelley Moore Capito said she knows many people afflicted with Parkinson’s Disease and she understands how difficult it is for both the patient and the family.
She authored a bill that aims to unite the federal government in a mission to cure and prevent Parkinson’s.
It also aims to alleviate the financial and health burdens on families, and to reduce government spending on it eventually.
The advocates for Parkinson’s Disease came to me here in West Virginia and said we don’t really know how many people have it, what best practices are, what is the pathway to end and cure Parkinson’s. And so I created a bill that is a, it is the plan to end Parkinson’s. And I think it will help really all West Virginians who are affected and really all those across the country.”

She said her research included attending boxing classes where patients learned how to keep their movement going.
The bill was co-sponsored by Senator Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat. It was signed into law by President Biden this week.
Senator Capito said now we can unite around a mission of ending the disease and establishing a responsible plan of diagnosis, treatment and support.
