WASHINGTON, D.C. - Code like a girl is one of Senator Shelley Moore Capito's initiatives for 2019 with one particular act.
Senator Capito along with other senators which includes, Senators Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), and Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) have joined in introducing the Building Blocks of Stem Act.
This act is expected to create and expand more STEM education initiatives for the National Science Foundation (NSF) for children. The legislation is also expected to produce more grants to increase the participation of girls in computer science.
Capito believes this will encourage girls in Pre-k-12th grade to dive into more STEM education.
"Well I think what happens is when you get up into elementary school and like fourth or fifth grade the girls start to lose interest, this is documented so we got to find out a way to keep the girls interest and that's what Code Like a Girl does," Capito said.
