The Biden Administration recently announced a new rule that will require any firearm dealers to run background checks on potential buyers.

The rule aims to ensure that a potential buyer isn’t prohibited from owning a firearm, but one U.S. Senator believes the rule is unconstitutional. U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito says the rule violates the Constitution by requiring anyone who sells a firearm to register as a federal firearm licensee.

She says to block the rule, it is key that the current gun laws are enforced properly.

"That’s so critically important. That means not just in the purchase of guns, but also in the perpetration of a crime. Many of these guns are illegally obtained and there have to be, and there are severe pressures on those who have trafficked the gun, and so we have to make sure that we’re enforcing that.”

Senator Capito says it is equally important to educate people on gun safety and ensuring that they are stored in a secure place.
