A U.S. Senator that sponsored a bi-partisan bill to strengthen education is continuing her strides towards providing a quality education to students across the state.
West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito spoke to ‘Upward Bound’ students at Concord University about the importance of higher education.
‘Upward Bound’ is part of the TRIO programs, which were established by the U.S. Department of Education over 25 years ago.
Senator Capito says she’s an advocate for the TRIO programs because it helps West Virginia students reach their highest potential.
Capito is one of three U.S. Senators that sponsored the Educational Opportunity and Success Act, a bi-partisan bill that would strengthen federal trio programs and improve outreach to youth across the nation.
Concord University has four TRIO programs, including Upward Bound, McNair, Student Support Services and Veterans Upward Bound.
