During a Fayette County visit, Shelley Moore Capito shared her thoughts on President Biden stepping down.

“I’ve felt for a while — certainly the last several weeks/months that he could not continue on a campaign,” Capito said. “I think that’s pretty obvious in the debate.”

The senator said this issue didn’t just pop up overnight with the president. So she would like to know who knew about it and what questions were being asked.

“Why were we not made aware of this sooner,” said Capito. “That troubles me because I think that’s something the American people need to know.”

The senator wishes President Biden well.

“I certainly think it’s probably a very tough decision for him and his family,” Capito said.

Another statement from the senator’s office argues that Biden cannot fulfill the duties of the presidency.

She says that members of the president’s inner circle are allowing him to continue what Capito describes as a cognitive decline.

The senator also criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’s record.
