Senator Shelley Moore Capito and members of the Federal Highway Administration were in Parsons to check the progress of Corridor H, which will create a highway that goes from I-79 into Virginia. Officials are happy about the project’s current progress in Parsons.

“I think I started at the beginning of the Corridor. I’m going to drive the whole 130 miles by the time I am done today, and I’m impressed by what has been built, what is being built, and the potential of what is going to be built here.”

Corridor H has been in the works for 60 years and its building has caused some concerns from detractors who say it should be moved elsewhere due to environmental and economic concerns. However, Shelley Moore Capito believes the current plan is the right move.

“Quite honestly, I think some of the detractors are trying to keep delaying and delaying and hoping it never happens for one reason or another. But I want to see it completed quickly, I like the route that the WV DOT has put together,” said Shelley Moore Capito U.S. Senator.

The highway is expected to be completed by 2031, and few a section of the route might open next year, but certain legal clearances must be worked out, when the dust clears Capito says, communities will benefit.

“It’s commerce, it’s bringing more people in its safety for the high school, it’s moving goods faster, it’s safer.”
