HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., toured two facilities in Cabell County Wednesday including Level 1 Fasteners and the Huntington Tri-State Airport.
The first stop for Capito was the Level 1 Fasteners facility in Huntington. The company manufactures fasteners for the military, aircrafts, aerospace, oil drilling, and medical facilities. They have about 90 employees and work closely with Mountwest Community and Technical College and the Robert C. Byrd Institute to develop skilled workers for local manufacturing jobs.
“Level 1 Fasteners is a true point of pride not only because they support our national defense, but also because they are a key local partner for developing our workforce here in Huntington,” Capito said.
The senator’s second stop was the Huntington Tri-State Airport where she toured new facilities as a part of Marshall University’s Aviation Maintenance Technician program.
“The new flight school and workforce training for technicians are expanding opportunities in the western region of the state, addressing pilot shortages, and introducing new career paths to those entering the workforce,” Capito said.
Capito also met with Brad Smith, president of Marshall University to discuss economic development and entrepreneurship opportunities as well as Audy Perry, Executive Director of Heritage Farm, to talk about improvements to the venue and transportation infrastructure.
