RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. (WTAP) - A United States Senator made a stop in Jackson County to see how she can help its largest employer.
Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R - West Virginia) toured the Constellium plant in Ravenswood Thursday morning.
"I'm just really proud of the work they do here," Senator Capito said.
"I learned that they've modernized a lot here in the plant but there needs to be more modernization again to be able to meet the challenge of the next several years in terms of product and we want to help them with that."
Senator Capito talked with workers about a number of topics including workplace safety, healthcare issues, and how drugs affect the county. The goal was to see how she can help with those problems.
The Ravenswood plant produces plate, sheet, and coil products for aerospace, defense, transportation, marine, and other industrial uses. It employs more than 1,100 people and is of the world’s largest rolled products facilities. Senator Capito said the facility is important to the community and the country.
"There are lots of benefits to the tax base, a long term employer of generations and very steady. I think it seems like things are in good shape here great management so I think everybody's felling pretty good about the opportunities at Constellium and how much that does for the local community is immeasurable really," the senator said.
