MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WDTV)-- The Childhood Cancer STAR Act was one of the main topics in today's event.
Senator Capito introduced the STAR Act in February and signed the legislation into law, with President Trump, this summer.
STAR stands for survivorship, treatment, access and research.
The Act helps to focus on pediatric cancer research and child-based cancer treatments.
Senator Capito joined the hospital staff and families to deliver her remarks.
According to officials there has never been a piece of legislation that has come close to the affected this one will have on patients.
"This is a very important thing. Pediatric cancer research is not nearly as well-funded as adult cancers, so we just need many more treatment options for my patients. This will assure that I can continue giving them hope that I want to give every patient and every family," said Dr. Patrick Tomboc, the Section Chief for WVU Medicine Childrens' Pediatric Blood and Cancer Center.
Families were pleased to meet Senator Capito today and thank her for her help with passing the STAR Act.
