WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) - West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito said she's pleased with the economy and looking forward to doing better after the May Jobs Report was released.
Employers added 223,000 jobs last month, and Capito said more than 1 million have been added since the tax reform bill.
Unemployment is also down to 3 .8%, the lowest since 2000, which the Senator said is good for West Virginians.
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito said, "I just think the economic engines of this country are really beginning to really roar and that will help the Northern Panhandle. Certainly we see the pickup in the natural gas business. The pipeline business has really um increased employment. West Virginia is well positioned to take advantage of this. West Virginia is getting higher wages."
According to the report, 6,000 mining jobs were added in May.
Wages were also up 2.7% compared to last year.
