United States Senator Shelley Moore Capito was in Bridgeport this morning for a roughly one-hour visit to be updated on progress on things in the city and Harrison County thanks to the efforts of one of her field representatives.

According to Mayor Andy Lang, Bridgeport native and Capito Field Representative Haden Miller contacted Lang to see if the city would be able to host the Senator to help fill in time before a pair of additional stops in West Virginia today. She met prior to this morning’s Prime 6 groundbreaking in Fairmont and a parade she will be part of in Wheeling.

“It was put together quickly, and we had great communication with the Senator by being able to provide a rundown on the area, while she let us know some of what was going on in Congress,” said Lang.

The morning included Capito meeting new Bridgeport City Manager Patrick Ford as well as receiving an update on projects in the city from Bridgeport Community Development Director Andrea Kerr. She also heard from Police Chief Mark Rogers who thanks the Senator for her continued support of law enforcement and recent grants received for cameras and police training.

Harrison County officials were also on hand. North Central West Virginia Airport Deputy Director Shawn Long provided a rundown on the new terminal building, while President of the Mid-Atlantic Aerospace Complex Tracy Miller talked on the massive local aerospace industry.

Amy Haberbosch-Wilson, the executive director of the Harrison County Economic Development Corporation, talked to the Senator about county projects and development. And Harrison County Commissioner David Hinkle also updated Senator Capito on multiple county endeavors.

“Each presentation was brief, about five minutes, and it was a good update for her and a good update for us on what she hopes Congress can do for West Virginia and our region,” said Lang.
