WASHINGTON D.C. (WTRF) - West Virginia Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin, along with members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, have announced more than $1 million for West Virginia University.
The money is provided through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
Funding will support research intended to help reduce health disparities among West Virginians and analyze the effectiveness of telehealth programs.
“Health professionals work every day to educate their neighbors about the dangers of certain behaviors, such as smoking, and to promote best practices intended to improve the health of West Virginians,” Senator Capito said in a press release. “Academic research is critical to informing these efforts, and the work being done at WVU helps ensure public health officials have the information necessary to make a positive impact in our communities."
“Cutting edge research is an important part of ensuring the overall health of our state is improving," added Senator Manchin in the same release. "This research leads to healthier, happier and more productive West Virginians."
$1 million will go to the West Virginia University Research Corporation through the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research Centers program.
$350,000 was awarded to the WVU Research Corporation through the Evidence-Based Tele-Emergency Network Grant Program.
