WVVA -- Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin joined a group of bipartisan members of Congress to show their support for the American Miners Act.
A news conference was held Wednesday in Washington D.C.
The American Miners Act, also known as Senate Bill 27, would amend the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 so some funds could be transferred to the 1974 United Mine Workers of America Pension Plan. That plan pays benefits to eligible retired miners, fully disabled miners and their families.
Capito and Manchin were joined by members of the United Mine Workers of America and Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL), Rep. David McKinley (R-WV), Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT), Rep. Terri Sewell (D-AL), and Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL).
