CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Some West Virginians woke up Wednesday morning with some money from the federal government in their bank accounts.

The $1,200 stimulus payments for those making under $75,000 a year began arriving via direct deposit.

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito said the IRS is now providing information on its website for taxpayers to be able to track their payments.

“It’s called ‘Get my payment.’ It’s a feature on the IRS website and it’s now up,” Capito said during an appearance Wednesday on MetroNews “Talkline.”

The feature allows a person to track the status of their payment along with an option to give the IRS direct deposit information if the agency hasn’t previously had that information from the taxpayer.

The IRS will mail the checks to taxpayers that don’t provide direct deposit information. Those checks are expected to be mailed next week.

Couples who file their taxes under “Married Filing Jointly” will receive up to $2,400 if they make less than $150,000 a year.

Most West Virginians are expected to receive $1,200. The median household income in the state as of 2017 was $43,469.

The money will not count as income on next year’s tax filing
