PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Senator Shelley Moore Capito stopped by McKinley Elementary School to talk to young girls about being ambitious and successful.
She talked to fifth graders about education, fitness and increasing their confidence.
Capito has visited elementary schools all across the state to spread her message.
"I think it's going to help me stay confident when I get older because every time I feel less confident, I can just think about this and it will remind me that if we put our minds to it, girls can do anything," said Alexis Atkins, a fifth grader at McKinley Elementary School.
According to one study, 7 in 10 girls believe they are lacking in some way, whether it be their looks or their performance in school.
