Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., has called on President Joe Biden to resign.

Capito, in a statement released Monday, questioned the president's ability to carry out his duties for the remainder of his term.

“We live in a dangerous world and deserve a commander in chief who is up for the rigors of the job. If President Biden feels that he is not capable of making it through the demands of a campaign, then how could he be capable of serving out the rest of his term as president?" Capito said.

Biden, in a letter posted to social media Sunday, announced he would would leave the 2024 presidential race and would "focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term."

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson called on the president to reign "immediately" shorty after Biden's announcement.

“If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President," Johnson said. "He must resign the office immediately.”

Capito also expressed disapproval of Vice President Kamala Harris, whom Biden endorsed to lead the Democratic ticket.

“Make no mistake, Vice President Kamala Harris represents a continuation of the last four years of President Biden’s disastrous policies," Capito said. "Whether it’s her failed leadership on our out-of-control southern border or her deciding vote in passing the so-called Inflation Reduction Act that supercharged the skyrocketing inflation Americans still feel to this day, a Harris administration would be more of the same."

In closing, Capito chastised "members of President Biden's inner circle" who " let him continue on amidst his apparent cognitive decline."

"The Biden administration consistently fails to accept responsibility for its many failures," she said.
