U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito visited Fayette County on Monday, July 22, 2024, to see the progress of two big projects in the area.
Her stops included the newly renovated Canyon Rim Visitors Center at New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, as well as the New River Health Facility.
Senators Capito and Joe Manchin helped secure $5 million in congressionally directed spending to improve the site in 2022.
CEO of New River Health John Schultz spoke about one of the many perks this facility offers locals across southern West Virginia.
“Well, it is centrally located right on Route 19 and, on an average day, there are about 30,000 cars that go by here. So, it’s easily accessible, there’s also a bus system that comes through here for patients who don’t have transportation services of their own,” said Schultz.
Capito added, “I think it is really great how they consolidated services. Dental services are difficult to find. They have dentists here on the property and that looked to be a pretty busy area. The fact that it’s so accessible to the rural parts of our state makes it well-located as well as a one-stop shop.”
Some of the services they provide include medical, dental, urgent care, and a pharmacy.
This facility was also a former K-Mart that has been renovated into this giant health facility. In its entirety, the facility encompasses around 95,000 square feet.
